Folding Bike

In the past decade folding bikes have become more and more popular. They are a convenient mode of transport in urban areas.

A folding bike can also be a fast form of mobility in urban streets where traffic can move slowly, particularly in city areas. The folding bike will get you going when other traffic is stopped. It is perfect for running around town or for leisurely rides.

The other major feature of a folding bicycle is that it is easy to store and easy to transport. These bikes fold into a much smaller package than a conventional bike so in an apartment they can be stored easily. If you need to drive to your destination and then want to cycle, a folding bike can be easily transported in a car or an RV. This means that you can transport your bike in a small area then have the convenience of your bike when you want.

Some public transportation systems allow folding bikes to be taken on trains, buses, boats or ferries to allow for mixed mode commuters to use different forms of transport.

There are different types of folding bike. The method used to fold the bike is where the distinction lies. One system used for a folding bike is the half or mid fold where the bike is folded on a hinge point and folds approximately in halves.

Another system is the triangle hinge where the hinges usually allow the rear triangle of the bike’s frame to be folded down.

There are other models which require some disassembling.

Today there is also an electric folding bike available.
